Step 5: Good Writing Counts

Check out the web pages actually at the top of a Google search. There is only one thing clearly in common: good writing. Do not get caught up in how a web page is created that you forget your site's content. Google, the world's most famous search engine does not ignore quality writing, or how many times a web page is updated.

Keep these areas in mind while your maintaining your web site:

Updating: Frequent updating of content. Update a page at least every other week, and if possible, once a week.

Spelling and grammar: Few or no errors. Why would Google recommend a page with lots of spelling errors? Does Google use SpellCheck? No one really knows except the staff at Google. But why take a chance?

Paragraphs: Keep it brief, one to four sentences. We are in the world of the sound byte, now the web byte.

Sentence length: Keep it brief. Most sentences should be 10 words or less. Longer sentences can be sprinkled throughout the text. But never clump them together.

Keyword relevance: Keep your text search engine friendly. Define your keywords before you start. Sprinkle your text with numerous terms related to the keyword, as well variations of the keyword.
